Subaru Gears Up to Release Its Largest EV Yet — A Three-Row Electric SUV in 2026
Subaru is accelerating its transition to electrification, and the next milestone in that journey will be its most spacious electric vehicle to date: a three-row SUV expected to debut in 2026.

This new electric SUV will expand Subaru’s EV lineup to four models by the end of the year, rounding out its offerings beyond the already announced Solterra, Trailseeker, and Uncharted.

A Bigger, Family-Friendly EV
In a recent interview with Automotive News, Subaru America’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Walters confirmed the company is preparing this three-row EV for launch later in 2026. While Subaru hasn’t released many specifics yet, early indications suggest the vehicle could share its underpinnings with the upcoming Toyota Highlander EV — continuing the established partnership between the two brands on shared electrified platforms.

Subaru’s existing three-row gasoline SUV, the Ascent, will welcome this new electric vehicle into the Subaru lineup.

What We Can Anticipate
Although official specs have not been confirmed, the three-row electric SUV is expected to include:
  • Standard all-wheel drive, keeping in line with Subaru’s longstanding AWD heritage and in line with the anticipated Toyota Highlander EV platform.
  • A higher price point than Subaru’s other EVs, with industry models like the Hyundai Ioniq 9 in the three-row segment starting around the mid-$50,000 range — suggesting Subaru’s model could be its most expensive U.S. offering yet.
  • Focus on owners with home charging, as Subaru has openly stated it’s targeting buyers with a second vehicle and regular access to wall chargers — a strategy likely tailored to households ready to adopt EVs as part of a broader lifestyle shift.

A Strategic Step in Subaru’s EV Expansion
The news of this large electric SUV comes at a time when some automakers are recalibrating their EV plans due to fluctuating consumer demand. Subaru’s decision to push forward with its full EV lineup, especially a big family-oriented model, underscores the company’s commitment to electrification — even as overall EV sales growth softens for many brands.

As Subaru readies this three-row EV for its 2026 launch, enthusiasts and families alike will be watching closely to see how it balances capability, space, and performance — and how it stacks up against rivals in the increasingly competitive electric SUV market.
